Description

This procedure explains how to perform a hard reset on a PowerPlex 2000 lock when the user does not know the Master Code.

Resolution

Follow the steps below to complete a hard reset when the Master Code is unknown.

1. Remove the lock screw: On the inside or back housing, remove the top right screw holding the lock to the door.
2. Activate reset button: Pump the handle until the green LED lights. Insert a long non-metallic blunt-ended tool into the screw hole to press and hold the Reset-to-Factory-Default button.
3. Press # to start reset sequence: You have up to 5 seconds to press ‘#’ and release the reset button.
   • If the 5-second timeout is reached without pressing ‘#’, the lock continues normal operation.
   • When ‘#’ is pressed in time, the lock exits the current state.
   • If any other key is pressed after ‘#’ or timeout occurs, the sequence aborts and the lock remains in access state.
   • If ‘#’ is pressed and the reset button is released within 5 seconds, the lock enters Reset Sequence State. The lock displays the ‘Reset Sequence In Progress’ message by flashing Green and Red LED alternately once every second.
4. 20-second window to enter Master Code: Users have 20 seconds to enter the Master Code followed by ‘#’ to perform a hard reset.
   • If the Master Code is unknown, the user must not enter anything during this 20-second delay.
5. 15-minute wait period: After the 20-second window, a 15-minute wait period begins.
   • During this time, all lock operations are ignored.
   • If a key is pressed, a high beep sounds, but the green LED does not illuminate. The lock then shows the ‘Reset Sequence In Progress’ message by flashing Green and Red LED alternately once.
   • If the handle is pumped, the green LED lights with a high beep, followed by the ‘Reset Sequence In Progress’ LED flash once. This indicates the lock is in the long wait reset sequence.
6. Final 20-second reset entry: After 15 minutes, the Reset Sequence In Progress message is displayed again for 20 seconds.
   • During this period, enter the sequence 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-# to reset the lock.
   • If the sequence is not entered correctly, the reset aborts and the lock resumes normal operation.
