Description

This procedure explains how to perform a hard reset on a PowerPlex 2000 lock when the user knows the Master Code.

Resolution

Follow the steps below to complete a hard reset when the Master Code is known.

1. Remove the lock screw: On the inside or back housing, remove the top right screw holding the lock to the door.
2. Activate reset button: Pump the handle until the green LED lights. Insert a long non-metallic blunt-ended tool into the screw hole to press and hold the Reset-to-Factory-Default button.
3. Press # to start reset sequence: You have up to 5 seconds to press ‘#’ and release the reset button.
   • If the 5-second timeout is reached without pressing ‘#’, the lock continues normal operation.
   • As soon as ‘#’ is pressed, the lock exits the current state.
   • If any other key is pressed after ‘#’ or timeout occurs, the sequence aborts and the lock remains in access state.
   • If ‘#’ is pressed and the reset button is released within 5 seconds, the lock enters Reset Sequence State. The lock displays the ‘Reset Sequence In Progress’ message by flashing Green and Red LED alternately once every second.
4. 20-second window to enter Master Code:
   • Users have 20 seconds to enter the Master Code followed by ‘#’ to perform a hard reset.
   • If a bad Master Code is entered:
     • The lock exits the Reset Sequence State and returns to access state.
     • The Tamper Count decrements. After 4 unsuccessful attempts, the lock enters Tamper Shutdown state for 30 seconds, then resumes normal operation.
   • If the correct Master Code is entered within 20 seconds, the lock performs a hard reset and returns to the unprogrammed state.
   • If no Master Code is entered during the 20 seconds, the lock will enter a 15-minute wait period, assuming the Master Code is unknown.
