Issue:
If you swipe or tap your keycard on the encoder and receive the message “Authorization has expired” or ‘’Invalid keycard", It may be due to the Authorization has expired, and you need to regain access to your FDU. Usually, the most common keycard that has this issue is GMA since it is the only one that Customers use daily.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: If no GMA is currently working on your FDU, you must contact dormakaba technical support immediately at 1800.999.6213 Opt#1. We will generate a GMA 200 for you. Then, you can follow the steps below to create additional GMAs or any other FDU authorizations if needed.
Troubleshooting steps:
Step 1: Access Your FDU
- Use a working GMA to open the FDU (swipe or tap the GMA card on the encoder).
Step 2: Navigate to Staff Keycard Menu
- Press 6, or use the ↓ (down arrow) and press ↵ (Enter) to select “Staff Keycard.”
Step 3: Go to FDU Authorization
- Press 2, or use the ↓ (down arrow) and press ↵ (Enter) to select “FDU Authorization.”
Step 4: Create or Authorize a New Keycard
- Choose the correct keycard type you want to authorize for FDU access.
- Enter the authorization number of the card that will be used to open the FDU.
- This card will allow you to create additional keycards or perform further authorizations.
It’s recommended to label your newly created cards for easy identification
Step 5: Assign a PIN (Optional but Recommended)
- If prompted with “Assign PIN?”, use the ← or → arrows to change the value to YES.
- The FDU will suggest a secure PIN based on its internal security settings.
It is highly recommended to use the suggested PIN.
If you prefer to create your own PIN, press the ↓ arrow to select “PIN Code” and enter a 4 to 8-digit code.
Each type of authorization allows different levels of access and control over the FDU. Below is a breakdown of the available options:
Front Desk: Creating this Authorization keycard w/wo Pin code Grants access to the Guest Keycard menu only to create Guest keycards, Does not provide access to other FDU functions.
Bellman’s Master: Once you create this keycard w/wo Pin code will allow you to go to the menu to create a bellman keycard valid for 24 hours and can be used on guest room locks.
Programming: Creating this Keycard w/wo Pin code, Grants access to the following FDU menus: Guest Keycard Menu, Lock Action Card Menu, Reset Keycard Menu, etc.
Useful for technical or maintenance staff involved in lock programming.
Master: Once you create this keycard w/wo Pin code, Allows creationg of keycards and access to most system functions., Ideal for department heads or advanced users.
General Manager: Grants full administrative control over the FDU, can access and manage all functions and settings, Reserved for the highest level of hotel staff authorization.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: For security purposes, any PIN that is written down must be stored in a secure location to prevent unauthorized access. Only GMA (General Manager Authorization) and Master keycards will not be available to access by PIN CODE.
To create extra or expired GMA (General Manager Authorization) keycards:
- Open the FDU using a valid GMA keycard.
- Navigate to:
- Option 6 – Staff Keycard
- Then option 2 – FDU Authorization
- Under Type, select General Manager.
- The valid authorization number range for GMAs is 181 to 200, allowing you to create up to 19 unique GMA keycards.
- In the Authorization Number field, enter the number you want to assign (e.g., 199).
- Press Enter twice to confirm.
✓You now have GMA 199 successfully created.
⚠️Warning: You cannot have two GMA keycards with the same authorization number.
Doing so will cause one to be overwritten
