Question: My glass door with patch fittings has failed. It looks like the top pivot is broken.
Answer: It is very rare for dormakaba’s UNIVERSAL Patch Fittings to fail. The primary issue is improper installation of the patch fitting, patch insert, and top pivot, either the PT21 walking beam pivot or the PT24 fixed pivot.
Too often, installers invert the critical plastic sleeve/bushing in the insert. Proper orientation is shown here:
The pivot pin is not properly captured in the inverted bushing, and can result in this sort of condition:
