The E7900 platform is transitioning from Generation 1 to Generation 2 to support future technologies, expanded capabilities, and deeper third-party integrations.
Generation 2 introduces a new platform architecture with updated gateways, locks, and M-Unit devices, enabling API-based Partner integrations and advanced access-control features.
While Generation 1 and Generation 2 hardware are not interoperable, both can operate at the same site using separate gateways—allowing customers to migrate to Generation 2 gradually without disrupting existing systems.

Quick Identification Tips
Compatibility Summary
- Sites can support both Generation 1 (gen1) gateway hierarchies and Generation 2 gateway hierarchies simultaneously
- The additional Gen2 locks added to the site can only communicate with new Gen2 gateways which must be added to support those new locks
- API for partner development (PACS/E792) is only supported with Gen2
