Description

This procedure explains how to perform a hard reset on an E-Plex 3xxx Series lock when the Master Code is not known. The reset process uses the mechanical override key and a timed reset sequence controlled by the lock firmware.

Resolution

Follow the steps below to complete a hard reset when the Master Code is unknown.

1. Insert the mechanical override key and turn it to the 3 o’clock position. 
2. Press the # key, then turn the key back to the 12 o’clock position within 5 seconds.

3. You have up to 5 seconds to press # and return the key to the 12 o’clock position.

   • If the 5-second timeout expires without pressing #, the lock continues normal operation.
   • When # is pressed, the lock exits its current state.
   • If any other key is pressed or the timeout expires after pressing #, the reset sequence exits and the lock remains in the access state.
   • If the sequence is completed correctly within 5 seconds, the lock enters the Reset Sequence State.

   In this state, the lock displays a Reset Sequence in Progress indication by alternating green and red LED flashes once per second.

4. Once in the Reset Sequence State, the lock allows a 20-second window to enter the Master Code. 
   If the Master Code is unknown, do not press any keys during this 20-second period. The LEDs continue to indicate that the reset sequence is in progress.
5. After the initial 20 seconds expire, the lock enters a 15-minute lockout period.
   • The lock ignores all keypad input.
   • The green LED does not blink when keys are pressed.
   • The green and red LEDs blink once per minute to indicate the lockout state.
6. After the 15-minute lockout period ends, the lock again displays the Reset Sequence in Progress indication for 20 seconds. 
   During this time, enter the following sequence exactly: 
   1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-# 
   If entered correctly, the lock performs a hard reset and returns to factory default settings. If the sequence is not completed within 20 seconds, the reset process aborts and the lock resumes normal operation.

Note: The M-Unit is only applicable when using optional E-Plex software.
