How to do a Hard Reset when User Does Not Know the Master Code in E-Plex 5xxx Series?

Description

This procedure allows a user without the Master Code to perform a hard reset on an E-Plex 5xxx lock. The lock enters a Reset Sequence State after pressing the # key, followed by timed delays. Users must follow a sequence of steps during the LED indications to complete the reset.

Resolution

User does not know the Master Code:

1. Insert Mechanical Override Key
   1. Insert the key and turn counterclockwise, holding the lock open (cylindrical latch retracted).
   2. Within 5 seconds, press the # key and release the key.
2. Enter Reset Sequence State
   1. Press the # key and release the reset button within 5 seconds.
   2. If 5 seconds pass without pressing #, the lock resumes normal operation.
   3. When # is pressed, the lock exits the current state and flashes Green and Red LEDs alternately once per second.
   4. If any other key is pressed or timeout occurs after #, the lock exits the sequence and stays in access state.
3. Wait for 20-Second Master Code Window
   1. The lock provides a 20-second window for entering the Master Code.
   2. Do not enter anything if the Master Code is unknown. The “Reset Sequence In Progress” LED message will display.
4. Complete Reset After 15-Minute Wait
   1. After 20 seconds, the lock starts a 15-minute wait period. All key presses are ignored, and Green and Red LEDs blink once per minute.
   2. After 15 minutes, the “Reset Sequence In Progress” message appears for 20 seconds.
   3. Enter the sequence 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-# to reset the lock.
   4. If the sequence is not entered correctly, the lock aborts the reset and resumes normal operation.
