LA GARD 700 Series Firmware Update Guide

When new firmware becomes available, registered LA GARD Software users can update both Keypad and Lock firmware. The updates include:

  • Keypad Application

  • Keypad Bootloader

  • Lock Application

  • Lock Bootloader

You can check the current firmware version using a Keypad with a display or a PC with the LA GARD Software.

  • On a Keypad with a display: navigate through the menus to view the application firmware levels for both the Keypad and any connected locks.

  • On a PC with LA GARD Software: use the Compare operation in the PC-Link dialog. The current versions of all four firmware files are listed under the Additional Info tab.

Requirements

To perform firmware updates, the Manager user must have:

  • A PC with the 700 Series LA GARD Software installed

  • A 700 Series USB Dongle (Part # 7047040)

  • A USB-to-Mini-USB Cable (Part # 203325)

Firmware Update Procedure

  1. Connect the Keypad to the PC:

    • Plug the 700 Series USB Dongle into the PC USB port.

    • Connect the USB end of the cable to the dongle and the mini-USB end to the Keypad.

  2. Authenticate the User:

    • On the Keypad, enter a valid User ID and the corresponding combination.

  3. Enter PC Link Mode:

    • Using the Arrow buttons, navigate to the Main Menu and select PC Link. The top of the Keypad will illuminate red.

  4. Select the Firmware File:

    • In the software client, select the applicable port from the drop-down menu.

    • Use the Select File button to locate the firmware update file on your PC.

    • If updating lock firmware, select the specific lock to update.

  5. Start the Firmware Update:

    • For Keypads with a display: navigate to System → FW Update → Start FW Update.

    • For Keypads without a display: use the #99 command with an authorized user combination to enter FW Update mode.

  6. Upload the Firmware:

    • In the software client, click the Upload button. A progress bar will appear.

    • The Keypad will beep three times and flash a green LED once complete.

    • If the update is interrupted, restart the process from the software.

Important: For locks with firmware earlier than version 1.1.5.7, cycle power after completing the firmware update to ensure all system changes are saved.

This process applies to LA GARD 700 Series Keypads and Locks.
